Internet Speed Test
Measure your connection’s download, upload, ping, and jitter for free, then compare the results with the bandwidth of your internet plan.
For the most accurate result, use a LAN cable, close any apps that are downloading, and repeat the test a few times.
How to Read Your Speed Test Results
The four main numbers that decide how comfortable your internet connection feels.
Download
How fast you receive data: opening websites, streaming video, and downloading files. Higher is better.
Upload
How fast you send data: video calls, cloud uploads, online CCTV, and live streaming.
Ping (latency)
The connection’s response time in milliseconds. Lower is better, and it matters for online games and video calls.
Jitter
How much the ping varies. Low jitter keeps VoIP audio and video calls from breaking up.
How Much Speed Do You Need?
Estimated bandwidth per activity. Add up the activities that run at the same time in your home or office.
| Activity | Estimated need | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Browsing & social media | 1–5 Mbps per device | Light, but grows with the number of devices |
| HD video calls | 2–4 Mbps per device | Needs a steady upload and low jitter |
| Full HD streaming | 5–8 Mbps per screen | Netflix, YouTube, and TV apps |
| 4K streaming | 15–25 Mbps per screen | Smart TVs and Android boxes |
| Online & cloud gaming | 25–50 Mbps | Low ping matters more than speed |
| Offices, CCTV & servers | Depends on users | Choose a symmetrical connection such as dedicated internet |
These figures are general estimates and vary with the app and the video quality selected. Our home internet plans start at 350 Mbps; see the home internet price list.
Why Can Test Results Differ?
Why is my speed test lower than my internet plan?
Tests over WiFi are affected by distance from the router, walls, interference, and the device itself. Other devices downloading or streaming also use bandwidth. Test again with a LAN cable to see the network’s true speed.
Is 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz WiFi better?
5 GHz is faster at short range, while 2.4 GHz reaches further but is slower. Our article about WiFi (in Indonesian) explains it in full.
The WiFi signal is weak in some rooms. What can I do?
Place the router in a central, open spot, or use an access point or mesh WiFi. Our technicians can help position the modem during installation or a repair visit.
Results are still low even with a cable. Now what?
Note the results and the time of the test, then contact Nex Network customer care at 0811-1011-1833. Our team will check the connection path and the equipment at your location.
